Maersk launches first Rijeka-Czech Republic direct cargo rail service
A regular rail link between Rijeka, Croatia and Paskov, Czech Republic via the Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT) commenced for the first time, according to a statement by International Container Terminals Services, Inc. (ICTSI).
“The Czech market is one of the most important markets in Europe with a significant manufacturing hub and consumer market. Currently, there are multiple regular weekly block trains between Rijeka, Serbia, Bosnia and Hungary with extensions for Slovakia,” noted Emmanuel Papagiannakis, AGCT chief executive officer.
“We appreciate that Maersk has launched this initiative adding direct rail services to Czechia. This also confirms the growing significance of AGCT as a gateway for Central Europe and Southeast Europe,” he added.
Maersk's rail service has been running since May, up to twice a week. It is operated by ČD Cargo Adria, a subsidiary of the Czech freight company ČD Cargo, the largest rail transport provider in the Czech Republic and one of the most important rail operators on the Trans-European Network corridor, including Slovakia, Germany, Austria, Poland and now expanding to Croatia.
